Course Description:
2009 MedExpress®Spirit of Pittsburgh Half Marathon & Two Person Relay: 13.1 Miles
- Participants start on Tunnel Blvd. just NORTH of S. 28th Street next to the Wine Loft at
Southside Works (7:30 a.m. NOTE: 7:25 a.m. wheelchair athletes)
- Proceed NORTH on Tunnel Blvd. around to S. 26th Street to E. Carson Street.
- Right on E. Carson Street heading NORTH to the West End Bridge
- Right on the West End Bridge and over West End Bridge to Western Ave.
- Right on Western Ave. to Allegheny Ave.
- Right on Allegheny Ave. to N. Shore Drive
- Follow N. Shore Drive around past Heinz Field, past PNC Park to
E. General Robinson Street
- Right on E. General Robinson Street heading EAST to River Ave.
- Right on River Ave heading EAST to the 31st Street and 31st Street Bridge
- Right on 31st Street over the 31st Street Bridge to Liberty Ave.
- Right on Liberty Ave. to Grant Street, which is a gradual left
- Left on 2nd Ave. (Service Road east side of Blvd. of Allies ramp entrance) off of Grant Street.
- Take 2nd Ave. all the way to the Hot Metal Street and Bridge
- Right on Hot Metal Street over the Hot Metal Bridge to Water Street at South Side Works
- Right on Water Street to S. 27th Street
- Left on S. 27th to the Finish Line, which is the brick walkway next to
the Cheesecake Factory

- Timing clocks will be located at the 5K, 10K, Relay Exchange, 15K, 20K and finish line

- Contains First Aid Kits - Bandaids, Motrin, Cleanser, etc.
- Located at Miles 3, 6, 9 and 12
- Portable Restrooms -
- Located at Start/Finish, Relay Exchange (6.55 Miles) and Miles 3, 9 and 12
Emergency Food / Nutrition on the Course:
- For those participants that are really low on salt / sugar / energy and are having a difficult time in the race, we will provide the following in SMALL quanities for those in need...

- Vanilla Wafers
- Oreo Cookies
- Chicken Broth (Note: Will be warm)
